It was the day I lost my phone that I realized the Google grid, knew more about me than my closest family members. On that day, I borrowed my friend’s phone to log into my Gmail account and check my emails as usual. After logging in, Google had provided my friend’s phone with all of MY contacts and search history. The download of all of this data was instant, and now another person had access to my most private information. As my friend’s baby picked up her phone, she accidentally started to dial the program director from the local radio station I was working with at the time. I quickly, hung up the call and felt somewhat invaded by Google for sharing my VIP information so easily. It was as if Google has a hard drive dating back years with all of my internet history, and they DO.
A Cookie is a text string that collects data from you while you are searching. Think about everything you search for. For instance, today, I have already used Google to look up the phone number to a print company, find a map to the closest Apple Store, watch a video on how to apply water nail polish designs, checked out the newest Cannon on the market, and looked up the best natural medicine for sinus allergies. By Noon Google already has enough information to sell to advertisers that would result in me buying their product. So with a Google cookie expiring every two years, Google can collect millions of questions, concerns, hopes, wishes, and interests of my life.
And what is done with all of your most precious and private information? Google sells it to several different companies by skewing your search results. Google has been criticized time and time again, for manipulating search results. So the next time I go to find a camera, advertisers will be targeting me throughout every result that posts. I am literally being led into information that has paid for me to view it.
Though I’d like to think that the sources that inspire me in the internet to react, are independently discovered by me, GOOGLE is in complete control of that. A PRISONER IS DEFINED AS A PERSON OR THING THAT IS DEPRIVED OF LIBERTY OR KEPT IN RESTRAINT. As Google participants, we are all kept in mental restraint and deprived of our liberties. We are directed by the ALL MIGHTY search engine. GOOGLE EVEN HAS PLANS FOR OUR FUTURE. They have invested in a company, associated with the CIA, called Recorded Future.
This company specializes in predictive analytics; monitoring the web in real time and using it to predict the future. Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chief Executive, was quoted in the 2010 article in the Wall Street Journal stating, “I actually think most people don’t want Google to answer their questions, they want Google to tell them what they should be doing next.”
My advice to all the prisoners with hopes of gaining more internet freedom; LOG OFF!
