ATTENTION ALL HIP HOP ARTISTS: MONEY TALKS!!!
The Hip Hop game has become survival by the DEEPEST POCKETS. If an average studio session is $30-50/hr, Mastering can cost hundreds or even thousands, Cd duplication and printing will add another $1000 at least, for online presence you are looking to spend another $1000, and then there’s the chance to open for Major artists or get on a tour which can also cost you thousands, Did you really think your “talent” was all that was needed to get you there?
Nowadays if you don’t have the money, don’t even step into the Hip Hop market. And yes people, there is a HUGE underground market, but the people making the money are NOT the underground artists. Talent Expos, Promoters, Club Owners, Digital media companies, Printing companies, DJ’s and recording studios are among some of the ones banking off the underground Hip Hop world.
But if you are good enough, someone will hear you right? How? Unfortunately unlike live bands that play cover music who are able to showcase their talent at local bars and restaurants, your shows will come with a price. Not a price to be paid for you, but a price for you to pay someone, whether it be a promoter, a club owner, or a DJ. Until you get what I like to call a “Little Piece of Fame”, then you will be coming out of pocket the entire way. If you are not an artist that has a massive local following, if you haven’t been on a track playing through the radio waves, and if you aren’t backed by any of the major artists, or labels, then you have not gotten your “Little Piece of Fame”.
Well what about the rags to riches stories in the media that successful artists have told? Most likely, somewhere along the line in their journey, it took a lot of money to get them to that platform. Whether they invested their own money, or they found someone to invest in their dream, it ALWAYS takes money to make it.
My lyrics speak for themselves, and I know I’m gonna make it. HOW? What is your plan, and if you are one of the few smart movements in the underground industry, then you will already have laid out how much it will cost to get you there.
MONEY TALKS. In any successful business entity, money is the key to success. Ever heard the saying, “It takes money, to make money”? That statement couldn’t be more true pertaining to the Hip Hop game. The truth is, artists all around the world will spend thousands upon thousands of dollars and NEVER make a cent off their investment and only be heard by a few.
So why should you invest in the Hip Hop industry? Why even try? There are a few artists in this world, who have the talent, and the work ethic to really make an impact in Hip Hop. If the few talented artists, fill their gas tank with dollars, and create a team like no engine seen before, they will have a real shot at stepping into the game. The moral of the story is, Money is more powerful than Talent and Drive. MONEY is what the Game is about, and if your pockets don’t compete with the main artists in your area, then you need to find a new hustle. To believe that Talent alone will take you into the “industry” is like believing that you will win the lottery today. You can believe it, but why not increase your chances by playing SMART. Artists need to ask themselves, HOW DEEP ARE MY POCKETS?
